                             Principal Appreciation MonthPAW
This week, the LSC delivered flowers to Mrs Clark and Mrs Robinson.  It's not too late to honor our principals and the work they do to keep Skinner a top 10 CPS school.  Consider making a tax deductible donation to Friends of Skinner West in their honor.  Don't forget to apply for your employers matching gift!
Meet Senora Morales: Upper Grade Spanish Teachermorales
¡Hola!  I'm Ms. Morales the upper-grade World Language - Spanish teacher. I began teaching at Skinner in February 2019. My family is from Central and South America. We lived in Guatemala and later in Colombia until I was ten years old, so Spanish is my first language. As a native Spanish speaker, sharing my love for the Spanish language and culture has become my passion. I earned a M.E. and B.A.  in Spanish, Marketing, & Journalism. I have my Professional Educator License to teach Spanish and ELA. In my free time, I enjoy traveling with my family. I have visited Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Colombia, Belize, Nicaragua, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic. I also love dogs and volunteer at my local animal shelter.

                              Principal Appreciation Monthprincipal
October in Principal Appreciation Month and principals are critical to student and school success. They work tirelessly for Chicago's students, educators and families; Now is our chance to thank them. One easy way to do so is to sign up to receive a celebration mail toolkit!  Here are a few more ways to thank principals: Thank your principal in-person, bring your principal a token of appreciation, post a "thank you" message on social media using #PrincipalPrideChi. We hope you will join CPS, City Hall and The Chicago Public Education Fund in celebrating the 2019 Principal Appreciation Campaign. Through small acts of gratitude, we can help our school leaders feel acknowledged and thanked for their tireless dedication to students, schools and communities.
                                          ASPEN UpdateASPEN
Families, thank you for your patience with ASPEN.  We've experienced a myriad of technical issues and CPS has been working diligently with us to get it up and running.  Rest assured, we plan to have it up and running by the middle of next week so teachers can enter grades.  Progress reports will be distributed, hopefully, by Friday, Oct 18th.
                                       After School Karatekarate
Once again, 4K-Karate is offering an after school karate program at Skinner West. They train Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00-5:30 in traditional Shorei Goju Ryu Karate-do. Last month, the current program achieved great results at the Tennessee State Championship: 7 gold and 3 silver!
More information about this program can be found here.
